Chesapeake Regional Airport<\/a><\/strong> (CPK, KCPK<\/strong>) is a public non-towered airport located in Chesapeake, Virginia. It’s maintained and operated by the Chesapeake Airport Authority. This field is about 11 miles southwest of downtown Chesapeake and has one runway as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FBOs & Services<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It was recommended as a great place to land by a retired GA pilot who now works at the Norfolk International Airport.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Horizon Aviation Services<\/a><\/strong> runs the FBO here, and they’ve got most of the bases covered. There’s training, tie-downs, ramp space, and new hangars. There is a clean, modern passenger terminal with great facilities and a helpful, friendly staff. The pricing for hangars is not set and is based on aircraft type at this time (May 2025).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, maintenance, parts, pilot supplies, catering, a pilot lounge, and both types of fuel are available. They are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day, with modified hours as needed for weather. Snacks are provided, but there are no restaurants in the terminal. After-hours call-out is $100 minimum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Epix Aviation<\/a><\/strong> offers flight training, aircraft rental, and maintenance, and you can reserve a charter here through Jet Air Charter<\/a><\/strong>. For additional online training, check out Pilot Institute<\/a><\/strong> or Rod Machado’s Learning Centers<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transportation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A courtesy car is available, as well as an Enterprise Rent-A-Car<\/strong>. If Hertz is your agency of choice, I was told they do NOT go to this airport. Both Uber and Lyft can get you here and pick you up, but there can be a 20-30 minute wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where To Stay Near Chesapeake Regional Airport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For places to stay in Chesapeake, the Hs have it, as in, Hyatt Place<\/a><\/strong>, Hampton Inn Norfolk\/Chesapeake<\/a><\/strong>, Holiday Inn Chesapeake-Norfolk<\/a><\/strong>, and Hilton Garden Inn Chesapeake\/Greenbrier<\/strong><\/a>. If you’re looking for an extended stay, there are two WoodSpring Suites: one in Chesapeake-Norfolk South<\/strong>, the other is listed as Chesapeake-Norfolk Greenbrier<\/strong>. Both are budget-friendly options, but neither has great reviews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Check Expedia.com<\/a><\/strong> or Hotels.com<\/a><\/strong> to compare prices and amenities. For a private vacation with all the comforts of home, go to VRBO.com<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where To Eat & Drink<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Butcher’s Son<\/a><\/strong> comes in first with a beautiful menu. For Caribbean flavor, the Cutlass Grille<\/a><\/strong> is the place. The breakfast, brunch, and evening craft beer vote goes to The Egg Bistro<\/a><\/strong> in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake. For a classic Chesapeake crab house, visit the Wicker’s Crab Pot<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mexican food ‘choice of the people’ is the Burrito Perdido<\/a><\/strong>. For Italian, Vino Italian Bistro is<\/strong> known for pasta dishes and nice wines. If you’re looking for seafood, the Black Pelican Greenbrier<\/a><\/strong> has a different special every day. As you would imagine, the seafood here is fresh and plentiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Barrel Room<\/strong>, Tap It Local<\/strong>, Big Ugly Brewing<\/strong>, and the Lockside Bar and Grill <\/strong>are all decent places to go for a drink. Wild Wing Cafe<\/strong> is for wings, live music, and a beer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

None of these are particularly close to the airport, but then again, nothing is. This is an out-of-the-way airport located in a rural landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things To Do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you’re outdoorsy, this is a beautiful place almost year-round. The Chesapeake Arboretum<\/strong> is a 48-acre preserve with trails and a 1830s farmhouse. You can also pick strawberries or pumpkins at Hickory Ridge Farm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you’re renting a car, Virginia Beach is less than 30 miles away and full of possibilities. Visit the Cape Henry Lighthouse<\/strong>, walk the Virginia Beach Boardwalk<\/strong>, or see the Military Aviation Museum<\/strong>. The Boardwalk is about 3 miles of heaven if you’re a beach person. Have someone take your picture under the King Neptune<\/strong> statue!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hop a southbound trolley to visit the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center<\/strong> or ride it all the way north to the historic First Landing State Park<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evening Adventures:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Take a sunset kayak trip to watch dolphins<\/a> or a zipline adventure in the wetlands<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you’re interested in a little spooky fun, try the Virginia Beach Haunted Pub Crawl<\/a>. Take your friends or make new ones on the tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Fly Here?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is a beautiful little city in and of itself, but it’s also close enough to Virginia Beach<\/strong> that you could use it as a home base for a vacation. If you prefer exciting days in Virginia Beach and quiet nights in a more rural setting, this could be just the place for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chesapeake Regional Airport<\/strong> gives you a smooth, convenient gateway to coastal Virginia.
