Landmarks and the Technical Part<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Flagstaff, Arizona<\/strong> (FLG, KFLG) Flagstaff Pulliam Airport<\/strong> is 5 miles south of Flagstaff in Coconino County, Arizona<\/strong>. This is a public airport with only one asphalt runway, 3\/12, which is 8,800′ x 150′. Their beautiful FBO is operated by Wiseman Aviation<\/a><\/strong>. They have both AVGas and JetA, nightly tie-downs, a pilot lounge, and general ground maintenance from 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. M-S, and they close at 6:00 p.m. on Sundays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are commercial flights into Flagstaff from SkyWest<\/strong> as well as numerous commuter carriers, but general aviation keeps this airfield hopping. This is the closest airport to the Grand Canyon<\/strong>. So, as you might guess, the tourism business here grows every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transportation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Enterprise Rental Cars, as well as numerous shuttles to local hotels, are available. There is also a taxi service, Uber or Lyft, available from the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Places to stay in Flagstaff and nearby.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nearest to the airport is Tru by Hilton Flagstaff<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Little America Flagstaff<\/strong><\/a>, with its 500-acre Ponderosa Pine forest, is a local favorite. The Village Camp Flagstaff Outdoor Resort<\/a><\/strong> is also a perfect getaway if you want to stay close to nature. You could also choose the Arizona Mountain Inn<\/a><\/strong>, just a mile from town, with 17 cabins tucked into the trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Double Tree by Hilton<\/a><\/strong> (which looks like an old brick church) and the Residence Inn by Marriott<\/strong> <\/a>downtown are also good choices if you’re a points person. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a budget? Motel 6 Flagstaff<\/a><\/strong> is the best choice around. And, as always, there is Homestay<\/a><\/strong> for something a bit more personal and unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local Flagstaff Pubs, Hangouts, and Dining!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

They say MartAnnes<\/a><\/strong> has the best Mexican-style breakfast anywhere. There’s also the Over Easy<\/a><\/strong> for something a little different or the Tourist Home All Day Cafe<\/a><\/strong> for the best breakfast or brunch in town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For lunch, if you’re in the mood for BBQ, try Satchmo’s BBQ<\/a><\/strong>. Prefer pizza? Fat Olives<\/a><\/strong> is ranked pretty high, along with Pizza at Pizzicletta<\/strong>. For some good old-fashioned American, try the Lumberyard Brewing Co.<\/a><\/strong> or Josephine’s Modern American Bistro<\/a><\/strong>, otherwise known asJosephine’s Restaurant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mother Road Brewing Company<\/a><\/strong> takes top billing according to several search engines. With Dark Sky Brewing Co<\/strong>.<\/a> (Pizza at Pizzaicletta), Hops on Birch<\/strong>, the Historic Brewing Barrel<\/strong> + Bottle House<\/strong><\/a>, and Oeno Wine Lounge<\/a>,<\/strong> formerly Vino Loc,o rounding out the top five. Flagstaff is home to Northern Arizona University<\/strong>, so, depending on seasons, game days, and local happenings, any of the above establishments can get pretty busy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things to see and do around Flagstaff.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From the Lava River Caves<\/strong> to helicopter and private tours of the Grand Canyon,<\/strong><\/a> you won’t lack things to do here. There are small group Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend<\/a><\/strong> Tours arranged as day trips. In addition, there is hiking galore around the Grand Canyon itself. The South Rim has a day tour. Enjoy the Grand Canyon Skywalk on the West Rim any time of year. Take water! There are a lot of ups and downs here, so be sure to dress for the conditions and the terrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you’ve come for skiing, the famous Arizona Snowbowl<\/a><\/strong> is just 7 miles NW of Flagstaff in the San Francisco Peaks. However, be forewarned: if you’ve rented a vehicle with no chains or 4WD after a snowstorm, you may not be allowed up the mountain. You will be directed to the lower parking lot, where a shuttle will show up every 20-30 minutes to take you to the resort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hitchhiking is also quite common going up the mountain if you happen to be a little adventurous. From downtown Flagstaff, you can catch the Mountain Express, which is a free shuttle between downtown and the Hart Prairie Lodge<\/strong> (open seasonally) at Arizona Snowbowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also day trips to the Hoover Dam<\/a><\/strong> and a flight to Lake Powell<\/strong> for river rafting. Several of the helicopter tours have an option for an add-on Hummer tour<\/strong>. The Monument Valley Tour<\/a> <\/strong>is every old Western movie you’ve ever seen come to life. There is a train tour that starts in nearby Williams, AZ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Downtown<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Besides just shopping and sightseeing, downtown has a haunted history walking tour<\/a> complete with eccentric guides. They relay all the stories of murder and mystery that shaped the sleepy little railroad town that became the city of Flagstaff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
