Bartow Flying Service is a full-service FBO with self-serve 100LL and full-service Jet-A. They offer aircraft rentals, training, GPUs, lav service, a snooze room, showers, and a flight planning room. After-hours calls and GPU service are charged per use or by the hour and vary per aircraft type. They also offer major airframe and powerplant services and have tiedowns for parking.

Where To Eat

Tantrums Flightside Cafe operates inside the terminal Monday-Saturday 7 a.m.-2 p.m., and sometimes a food truck during lunch. The truck rotates around Polk County.

Two Brothers One Grill, a lively Mexican restaurant, and Charm City Seafood are fairly close, and they both deliver. Other than that, Uber Eats is available in this town.

Closest To the Airport: Holiday Inn Express & Suites Bartow and the Stay Inn & Suites Bartow.

Unique Stays: Not much here that is very different, but in nearby Winter Haven, the Lake Roy Beach Inn has a lakeside, retro feel.

Point of Interest

Bartow Executive Airport was constructed during WWII as a US Army Air Corps training field. They broke ground on Dec. 8, 1941, one day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Bartow Air Base Historical Museum inside the terminal is worth checking out.

Why Fly Here?

Bartow is a viable option to Lakeland, Florida. As everyone in general aviation knows, Lakeland is the home of SUN ‘n FUN! While my friend Amanda (who worked at the Lakeland airport) assures me that, although they do get slammed, they have never run out of room. If you don’t feel up to that for any reason or just don’t want to deal with it, this airfield is close by and gives you some options.
