Dining
Ponca City Airport has a wonderful Fly-In Breakfast the first Saturday of every month. When the weather isn’t conducive to flying the locals still come out in number for a great meal. This gathering is quite popular in NW Oklahoma.
The on field restaurant, Enrique’s Mexican Restaurant, advertises as the “Hottest Jalapeno on the Runway” but you need to know it’s the ONLY jalapeno on the runway. We ate there recently and although it’s a cool looking place I personally wouldn’t classify it as Mexican. To me it is much closer to a Cuban restaurant and as I’m not particularly enamored of Cuban food, it was not my favorite. That being said, it was very busy for a small town weekday lunch so obviously my taste isn’t part of the major consensus.
For some down home family style you should try JW Cobbs, they’ve got a chicken fried steak that takes up the whole plate. On my next visit I’m going to visit either Garrett Wrangler Restaurant or the Grand Cafe. Both of these places are highly rated in several search engines. Neither has a website but the Grand Cafe advertises specials on Facebook and also states that they provide employment for adults with developmental disabilities. Eat good, do good, it’s a win/win!
