Dining
Ponca City Airport has a wonderful Fly-In Breakfast the first Saturday of every month. When the weather isn’t conducive to flying, the locals still come out in numbers for a great meal. This gathering is quite popular in NW Oklahoma.
The on-field restaurant, Enrique’s Mexican Restaurant, advertises as the “Hottest Jalapeno on the Runway.” I have to admit, we ate there recently, and although it’s a cool-looking place, I wouldn’t classify it as Mexican. To me, it is much closer to a Cuban restaurant, which I’m not particularly fond of. That being said, it was very busy for a small-town weekday lunch, so obviously, my taste isn’t part of the major consensus.
For some down-home family-style, you should try JW Cobbs; they’ve got a chicken-fried steak that takes up the whole plate. On my next visit, I’m going to visit either the Garrett Wrangler Restaurant or the Grand Cafe. Both are highly rated in several search engines. Neither has a website, but the Grand Cafe advertises specials on Facebook and states that they employ adults with developmental disabilities. Eat good, do good, it’s a win/win!
