FBOs & Services

2 FBOs serve this airport: Sheltair Aviation Services and Signature Flight Support. General aviation people have given nothing but 5-star reviews for Sheltair and their customer service. It is also one of the less expensive options at this field. Everything from ramp space to heated hangars is offered here, plus a lounge, catering, deicing, bottled water, ground handling, airstairs, and many other amenities. Signature provides most of the same amenities but adds WiFi and self-serve AVGas. It appears all jet fuels are available with full-service.

JSX, a jet service offering the comfort and luxury of a private jet with a smaller price tag. JSX flies from here to several destinations, including Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Burbank, CA. Even if you’re traveling on from one of these, starting here will save you the two-hour interminable wait at major airports. The personal arrival time for JSX flights is only 20 minutes before departure.

The RMMA is home to The Rocky Mountain Flight School, Rocky Mountain Aircraft Services, Independence Aviation, Elite Aviation Private Jet Center, Wheels Up, Freedom Air Avionics, McAir Aviation, Jet Tech, AVEX, and several other aviation-related companies. See the directory below.

Transportation

For the least expensive option, if you’re going to Denver or Boulder, you can grab an Uber to several Park and Ride lots to catch a bus. This will involve downloading an app. While downtown, if you’d like to try something unique, Mile High Pedi Cabs are available. If you prefer to travel in high style, please note: The Kingdom Chariots Limousine & Sedan Service, though still listed on search engines, is permanently closed, and the Comfort Town Car will redirect you to the Enterprise Car Rental site. DJ black car services does provide limos for this region.

Car rentals are available through Go Rentals or Enterprise/National. You can also call Carla Car Rental for options. I do want to add that the comments on the Enterprise site for this location would persuade me to have a backup plan. Maybe they have improved. If you give them a shot, sending us a note about the customer service (good or bad) would be greatly appreciated.

Both Sheltair and Signature list a crew car and a courtesy van.

Places to Stay Near Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport

The Hilltop Inn is the place to stay if you want comfort and proximity to the airport. The Burns Pub and Restaurant is the family-owned dining option offered on the property. There is also a WoodSpring Suites or the Aloft Broomfield Denver located not too far from the airport. Looking for your favorite chain? Check out Expedia.com or Hotels.com to compare prices and amenities. If you want something more personal, try VRBO.com.

Looking for somewhere close to a golf course? Check out the Omni Interlocken Hotel. The Omni has Morsels Cafe in the lobby for snacks and coffee, The Meritage Restaurant for breakfast, Fairways Restaurant, with a beautiful view, and The Tap Room Restaurant and Bar for craft beer and a friendly game of pool. Not a small perk, they have the H2O Poolside Bar & Grill!

Of course, there are always plenty of places to camp in Colorado.

Dining

The Blue Sky Bistro offers breakfast and lunch M-F from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the terminal. There are also vending machines if you are just looking for snacks or are there after hours.

If you are outside of those hours, you can walk down to The Burns Pub unless it’s Monday. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday, 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. This is a bit of a walk, so if the weather isn’t great or you’re not looking for a bit of a hike, I wouldn’t recommend it. Even in nice springtime weather, we got a little sweaty. This Scottish/Irish/English/Welsh style pub has great food and whiskey tastings. It was a little too early in the day for me to be tasting whiskey, but the collection was impressive, the outdoor space was nice, and the fish and chips won’t disappoint.

If you are going to use the courtesy car or Uber into town, the best-rated dining is a Mexican restaurant called Three Margaritas or a pizza place called Infinitus Pie in Broomfield. Both are open every day of the week after 11:00 a.m. Also with great ratings are Twin Peaks and the Great Scott Eatery. I’d try Great Scott just for the name and the look of the place. All those old diner-looking red (not-a-hide) booths and chairs with their Route 66 theme have my vote.

If you’re looking for something fast, there’s an Arby’s not too far past The Burns Pub. If you are heading the other direction, Evan’s Cafe (serves Mexican food) has quite a few 5-star ratings.

Pubs

As I said, it was too early in the day for whiskey tasting when I was there, but coming in at number one is The Burns Pub & Restaurant. They have a selection of over 500 different whiskies. Next closest in proximity is the 4 Noses Brewing Company, with a dog-friendly setting if you brought your best friend. They serve craft beers, ciders, beer slushes and have rotating food trucks. Opens at 3:00 p.m.

If you’re looking for pub food, sports, craft beers, or a game of pool. The Tap Room is a classic pub located in the Omni Hotel.

Things To Do

Hike, sightsee, ski, play golf, fish, camp, go on a jeep tour, or rent a bike, you name it, it’s here somewhere. All of these activities depend on the time of year, the amount of time you have, your physical abilities, and the amount of money you want to spend. Hiking and sightseeing are free if you have a way to get around. Golf is almost always expensive, as is skiing. Jeep tours can be day trips or include overnight camping, and bike rides can take an hour. Decisions, Decisions!
