Marion County Regional Airport, (FAA: FLP, :KFLP) is located within the Ozark Mountain Range one mile north of Flippin, Arkansas, and yes, you read that correctly. This is a small non-towered public field with one runway. Runway 4/22, is 5001 x 75 ft. with an elevation of 719.9 ft. has an asphalt surface reported in good condition. This field is attended from 9:00-3:00 Mon-Sat. with self serve AvGas and Jet-A available 24/7. There is only minor airframe and powerplant service here and they don’t carry oxygen.

There are snacks and drinks in the FBO. The place is very clean and has a comfy lounging spot. There are also t-shirts available for sale at the counter.

Where To Stay

You can definitely rent a cabin from AirBNB and have plenty of beautiful scenery to look at around here. Also available is the Driftwood Resort up out of Bull Shoals 8.9 miles north of the airport. Expedia.com or VRBO might be a good choice here for options unless you came to stay with family or friends.

Where to Eat

Choices are limited here as Flippin, AR is a very small town but everyone has to eat somewhere so here are your options:

  • Messy’s Grill (a Green Food Truck with 100% great reviews) call 870-736-1373 to find out where they are when you’re in town.
  • PJ Cracker General Store-with a beer garden, Taco Tuesdays and often live entertainment.
  • Ole South Burgers and BBQ-open M,W,F
  • Pizza Inn
  • Sonic

Things To Do

The outdoorsy types will love Bull Shoals Caverns, one of the world’s oldest limestone caverns, it’s located just north of Flippin in the Ozark mountain range. The Bull Shoals-White River State Park has a campground with bathrooms and a really nice marina. You can rent a houseboat for a night a two. If you’ve never slept on the water, this is your chance. If you visit the park, make your way to the James A. Gaston Visitor Center, the views are beautiful.

There are several outfits that offer guided tours of the White River or just trout guide services.

For entertainment, the Bull Shoals Theater of the Arts, also north, puts on local productions and has live bands performing. You’ll find everything here from Chili cook offs to pickin’ on the porch. Another option, Flippin is only 40 miles from Branson if you’re in the mood for a drive and endless choices of music and theater.

Where to Grab a Cold One

PJ Cracker General Store out on highway 178 is a good place for socializing with locals and grabbing a bite and a beer. Also on out on the highway is the aptly named 178 Club, a bar and grill.

Mountain Home is a small town about 12 miles away and there are several choices there for beer, cocktails or wine. The Crush Studio is a little speakeasy type wine bar and Rapp’s Barren Brewing is a popular spot.

Of Note

Flippin, AR might not be a hotbed for aviation but if you’re looking for a boat this is the place. Flippin is home to the famous Ranger Boats, the Double XX Boats as well as the newer Vexus Boats.

In Conclusion

Pretty laid back little town and airport but there are perks to laid back. It’s a nice little fuel stop if that’s what you need.
