Where To Eat

For Caribbean-inspired meals, Kaya Island Eats is the place to go. Great food, drinks, staff, and usually live music, and weather permitting, great outdoor seating. Another great Caribbean food hotspot is Blue Heaven, with their full bar, live music, and outdoor seating.

A Travelers’ Choice (Best of the Best) for seafood in Old Town is the Red Shoe Island Bistro; reservations are suggested. It’s a quaint place with a small menu, but rave reviews. You can call directly (305) 509-7271 or make reservations through Opentable.com. There isn’t a website, but you can check out photos on their Facebook page.

For Italian food, the New York Pasta Garden seems to be a favorite. The outdoor dining space is beautiful, as are the live parrots.

For breakfast lovers, there is The Breakfast Club Too. Homemade breakfast and lunch 8-2 every day. A signature Bloody Mary and a pancake charcuterie board will make your day.

Pubs and More Pubs!

Walk down Duval Street, and you can pretty much take your pick. There’s no shortage of bars or live music. Some of the most famous Key West bars are presented here, but don’t limit yourself.

For history and character galore, along with your cold brew, the iconic Sloppy Joe’s is world famous. A hangout for Earnest Hemingway back in the 1930s, it has become a Key West landmark.

Captain Tony’s is the favored bar of country star Kenny Chesney and the original home of Sloppy Joe’s. Dollar bills are stuck to the ceiling. I’ve been told that the site raised the rent by a dollar back in 1937, and that’s why Sloppy Joe’s moved to its present location. Yes, I would call it a dive bar, but the history is cool, and the drinks are cheap.

Irish Kevin’s, join the party, or go upstairs and simply watch the party. There’s always live music, an impressive beer lineup, and great pub food.

Smokin’ Tuna Saloon has great music in the courtyard and wonderful local seafood. They also have the iconic Smokin’ Tuna T-shirts, which you might have seen anywhere in the world.

Hog’s Breath Saloon, once again, a bar with a world-famous t-shirt, is down on Mallory Square. Eat & drink inside to escape the heat, or go outside to one of the best sunset views in Florida. If you’re there the last few days of November, which is a great time to be there, you can join the 5K Hog Trot. Proceeds benefit the Florida Keys SPCA, so why not?

Probably the best way to see more than one is the Original Key West Pub Crawl: The best bars, plus a free T-shirt. Have a few drinks and take home a souvenir!

Things To Do

Hey, it’s the ocean, and the things to do are unlimited! Parasailing, private fishing charters, snorkeling, dolphin watching, jet skis, and sunset cruises. (with or without alcohol)

For something a little romantic, go for the sunset sail. Low-key, laid back, and absolutely beautiful.

A little excitement for the kids could be the glass-bottom boat tour or the SNUBA experience. The Key West Aquarium is always a safe bet, too.

For that one vacation photo everyone remembers, do a photo shoot at the Southernmost Point of the Continental USA. If you’re not into water sports and would prefer quieter and more peaceful outings, the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory is not far from there.
