DeKalb Peachtree Airport (PDK) is a towered public airport located in the Atlanta suburb of Chamblee in DeKalb County, 12.2 miles NE of downtown Atlanta, GA. (Via-85 North). Or, 8 miles as the plane flies. There are no scheduled commercial flights from this field. However, this is a reliever airport for Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL), and charters are available. There are multiple FBOs, 7 flight schools, and 2 helicopter operations on this field. This place is busy! It’s Atlanta without commercial traffic. It is attended 24/7/365. Both tie-downs and hangers are available, and fuel types are Av-Gas, Jet-A, and Jet-A+. However, the only self-serve AvGas is at the Phillips 66 PDKSS AVGAS.com. Major powerplant and airframe services are available, as well as both bottled and bulk oxygen.

The FBOs are Signature PDK, Quality Aviation, Ground Force Group Inc., and Premier Aircraft Sales. Additionally, There are Atlanta Air Charter Inc., Aero Center Atlanta, Atlantic Aviation, and Nspire Aviation. Every ground service you can think of is offered here.

Where To Eat/Drink

The Downwind Restaurant and Lounge is located in the terminal with runway views from the patio. The 57th Fighter Group Restaurant sits next to the runway. This place will transport you right back to the 1940s.

Less than a mile away is the Layaly Mediterranean Restaurant, where they serve flavorful Middle Eastern dishes. Even closer is the Wehemia Ethiopian Restaurant, serving up bold spices and warm hospitality.

Also nearby is the favorite local spot for Cuban Sandwiches and Latin pastries, the Pan American Bakery.

Things To Do

Stone Mountain Park is just a short drive away. This iconic granite monolith is a must for nature lovers, history buffs, and families. There are hiking trails, a scenic railroad, and the tram will give you a panoramic view from the summit.

Nearby are several museums that might pique your interest. The Fernbank Museum of Natural History is a great combination of indoor and outdoor attractions. Complete with dinosaur exhibits, nature trails, and a giant screen theater. The David J. CDC Museum is truly a unique adventure. It’s a fascinating place that explores the history of public health and disease prevention. Last, but not least, the Waffle House Museum is a quirky place that celebrates the history of the beloved Southern Diner chain. If your dates line up, don’t miss the Good Neighbor Day Air Show. It’s an annual event and one of the best aviation showcases in the Southeast. Also, weather permitting, you can get into a fully restored 1941 Waco UPF-7 biplane and get a bird’s eye view of Stone Mountain and downtown Atlanta.

History

Before transforming into one of Atlanta’s busiest general aviation hubs, this field was a WWI training base (Camp Gordon) that later became Naval Air Station Atlanta during WWII.
