Stillwater Regional Airport (IATA: SWO, ICAO: KSWO, FAA LID: SWO) is a public field located in Payne County, OK, approximately 3 miles NW of Stillwater. With an elevation of 1,000.3 ft., this field has two runways: the main concrete runway is 17/35, which is 7,401 x 100 ft., and the crosswind asphalt runway is 5,002 x 75 ft.
They are in the process of building a new terminal and have launched a $161 million, 20-year expansion plan. The hope for the future of this airport is to create a regional aviation hub to enhance economic development, as well as OSU’s aviation program.
This property is home to the very modern and very orangeOklahoma State University Flight Center. The Stillwater Flight Center is a full-service FBO that performs lavatory services, aircraft towing, and has GPUs and concierge services. The fuel is Phillips 66, and there’s both AvGas and Jet A. Parking is ramp side for larger aircraft with ramp, tie-downs, or hangar space for general aviation. Crosswind Aviation adds to Stillwater’s growing aviation ecosystem. Alongside OSU’s Flight Center and the airport’s expansion plans, Crosswind provides local flight training and rental options that support both recreational pilots and those pursuing aviation careers.

The grounds are also home to RPX Technologies, Inc., specializing in aviation vibration analysis equipment and makers of the DynaVibe GX3, DynaVibe Classic propeller balancers, and DynaTrack helicopter optical blade tracker.
Another business here is LBR Inc. Airport Consultants, with full-service airport engineering and consulting. Their expertise lies in pavement, drainage, airport lighting, and signage.
This airport is basically a general aviation field, but it also has a few commercial flights. American Airlines (Envoy Air) normally has three flights per day to DFW.
Transportation
The Stillwater Regional Airport has both a courtesy van/car and crew cars. A rental car counter is located inside the terminal.
There is also a bus stop on the corner of the sidewalk if you take an immediate left as you exit the terminal front door. The bus runs Monday through Friday from 6:20 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. during the school year and is free to OSU students. During the summer, the bus shuts down at 7:00 p.m. There is a small fee for the general public.
They offer free parking for vehicles at this airport, and there are free shuttle services from many of the surrounding hotels.
Where To Stay
The closest hotels to the airport are the Home2 Suites by Hilton, Holiday Inn Express-University West by IHG, Hampton Inn & Suites, Best Western Plus Cimarron, Springhill Suites by Marriott Stillwater, and The Atherton Hotel. Of these, the only one that doesn’t consistently advertise shuttle service is the Springhill Suites. A bit more budget-friendly would be the La Quinta Inn & Suites.

Where To Eat
Stillwater is famous for being the birthplace of Eskimoe Joe’s. While it is definitely a college hangout, I have seen their iconic mascot on t-shirts from Alaska to Florida. I personally wore mine in London just to take a picture for their “Wall of Fame”. There is a digital “Wall of Fame” online where you can browse photos by year. This place is famous for its cheese fries. Add anything with calories on top and enjoy the atmosphere!
Looking for Italian and some of the best service in town? Look no further than Da Vinci’s Italian Restaurant. Everything is good, but the little braided buttery breadsticks with large-grain garlic salt on top are heavenly. They come before the meal; pace yourself. This family-owned restaurant specializes in traditional Italian recipes passed down through generations. This is a small, cozy place with a calm atmosphere that is consistently rated Stillwater’s #1 Italian Restaurant. It’s always closed on Mondays.
Another place in Stillwater is Roscoe’s Feed Shack. Known for the comfort of hearty home-style dishes and reasonable prices. It’s very popular with the locals, and the locals always know where to go.
There are several good Asian restaurants (as of Nov. 2025) to include Miso and Tokyo Pot. The students seem to favor a place called Devoted, which is a ramen specialty restaurant.
Things To Do
One of Stillwater’s unique sights is McCubbin’s Bumblebee Transformer. This giant statue is a quirky roadside attraction. Enjoyed by all ages, it’s a great photo op. To complete your photo tour, you need to go to the east side of town and take pictures with the giant Optimus Prime statue.
Stillwater is also home to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum, the Botanic Gardens at Oklahoma State University, the Stillwater History Museum at the Sheerar, Boomer Lake Park, Southern Woods Park, and the Kameoka Trail.
Last but not least, there’s the season for friendly football fights at T. Boone Pickens Field. The Cowboys would love a visit; it’s a great stadium.
Famous Aviators and OSU Alumni
General Thomas P Stafford, a NASA astronaut and test pilot, graduated from OSU with an engineering degree. He flew on Gemini VI and Gemini XI and later commanded Apollo 10.
Stuart Roosa was a NASA astronaut and the Command Module Pilot on Apollo 14. William R. Pogue was also a NASA astronaut.
Other OSU Alumni include singers Reba McEntire and Garth Brooks, actors James Marsden and Rex Linn, and public service figures Anita Hill and Nam Duck-woo (former Prime Minister of South Korea).
Why Fly Here?
The new facilities are going to be very impressive, but what’s there now still does a good job of getting people where they need to go. For commercial passengers, there’s a small wooden trail that leads to security in a trailer. Although it’s not fancy, walking across the ramp to the airstairs works just fine.
