Monticello Regional Airport (MXO, KMXO) is a non-towered public airport located approximately 2 miles SE of the city center along Hwy. 38. This is the only public airport in Jones County, Iowa. There are two runways here. The primary concrete runway, 15/33, measures 4,400′ x 75′ in good condition. The second runway, 9/27, is turf in fair condition at 2,300′ x 90′. This airport is owned by the City of Monticello.
Monticello Aviation Inc. is the FBO. They have both AvGas and Jet-A, with AvGas available as self-serve 24 hours a day (Phillips 66). Parking is ramp or tiedown. Flight training, aircraft rental, charters, bottled oxygen, and airframe and powerplant are part of the services they offer. The terminal is clean and comfortable. In fact, when we were there, this entire field was clean and very well kept. It’s a nice place.
