Hagerstown Regional Airport (HGR, KHGR) is a towered public airport located 5 miles north of Hagerstown in Hagerstown, Maryland, and owned by Washington County. It is also known as Richard A. Henson Field and is one-half mile from the Maryland-Pennsylvania border. So, not only does it serve the Hagerstown metro area, but also a tri-state region of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. There are two runways as follows:

Rider Jet Center is the primary FBO offering,100 LL, Jet A fuel, line services, GPU, free Wi-Fi, a lobby, pilot lounge, snooze and conference rooms, and WSI Computerized Weather Briefing Satellite. Parking is tiedowns.

There is commercial traffic here, provided by Allegiant Air year-round to Orlando/Sanford, St. Petersburg/Clearwater International, and seasonally to other Florida destinations such as Myrtle Beach.

Transportation

A courtesy car is available from the Rider Jet Center FBO, or they can arrange a rental car. Also operating are Hagerstown Taxi Service, Downtown Taxi, Uber, Lyft, private shuttles, Sterling Distinctive Limo, Tangier Transportation, and Limos 4 Less.

Airportshuttles.com has direct routes to surrounding cities. Regional bus connections can be found via Greyhound and Washington County Commuter buses.

Inside the terminal at the Rider Jet Center is the Grille at Runways. It’s casual, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with nice views of different aircraft.

Within a few miles of the airport are the following: Nick’s Airport Inn, fine dining with American & seafood choices, Colonial Bar & Grill, serving casual American fare, Cafe Roma Ristorante with Italian cuisine, or fast-food options, Wendy’s, or Subway for quick service.

Things To Do

Local museums are a perfect fit for aviation lovers. The Hagerstown Aviation Museum connects you with the Fairchild legacy that put this corner of Maryland on the aviation map.

You can also visit the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts (closed Mondays) with free admission inside the lovely Hagerstown City Park. Also in the park is a must-see for rail enthusiasts, the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum.

For something a bit more unusual, visit the Heavy Metal Playground. You’ll have a unique experience operating real construction equipment. It’s one of the standout “only in Hagerstown” activities.
