Things To Do
The big drawing card here is skiing. Killington Resort (Killington Valley) is the largest ski area in the East. Known as the “Beast of the East,” it’s famous for its long season, massive terrain, and vibrant ski scene. This resort sits about 30 minutes from the airport, with Pico Mountain a few minutes closer.
Magic Mountain, Okemo, and Bromley are all within a 45–60 minute drive, giving travelers quick access to some of Vermont’s best alpine terrain.
Closer to the airport, the Steampunk Locomotive is a quirky roadside attraction featuring a stylized locomotive sculpture.
For the kids, there is the Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum downtown, featuring hands-on, interactive displays focused on learning and discovery.
Something unusual is nearby if you feel like exploring. Wilson Castle, also known as Johnson’s Folly, is in Proctor, Vermont. Built in the 1880s, it is under almost constant reconstruction, but that seems to be part of the charm. Admission fees and events held on the grounds help fund the restoration. The castle’s paranormal tours are informative and fun, and the place is filled with antiques from all over the world.
