Hayward Executive Airport (HWD, KHWD) is a towered, public airport located 2 miles west of Hayward, in Alameda County, California. Owned by the City of Hayward, this field has noise abatement procedures and two runways as follows:

DesignationDimensionSurfaceCondition
10R/28/L5,694′ x 150′Asphalt (grooved)Excellent
10L/28R3,108′ x 75′AsphaltGood

There are two FBOs on this field. Both require special event fees for special events such as Super Bowl LX. The APP Jet Center offers on-site maintenance, ground handling, quick-turn service, catering, lav service, and potable water. They have a pilot lounge, snooze and meeting rooms, and showers. Available Titan fuels are 100LL, AvGas, and Jet-A.

Signature Aviation, formerly Meridian Hayward, also operates here. Besides 100LL and Jet-A fueling, they have concierge and catering services, and a modern private terminal with restrooms and a fully operational business center that includes all the necessities and most of the niceties. They also offer complimentary coffee, bottled water, snacks, newspapers, and toiletries. They are pet-friendly.

There is no commercial traffic at this airport, and no general passenger terminal.

Six Flight schools operate on this field: Hayward Flight, California Airways, East Bay Aviators, Suburban Air, ATP Flight School, (PFC) Professional Flight Crew, (Jan. 2025). Aviation businesses at this airport include numerous MROs and charter services, three Helicopter operations, and several hangar and property management companies. If you’re exploring on‑demand charters alongside local operators, Villiers Jets offers a worldwide search tool to compare aircraft, routes, and pricing.

The FAA and Air National Guard 216th CCS also have a presence here.

Transportation

A crew car is available from either FBO, and both will arrange a rental car or limousine.

Enterprise is listed as the rental provider, but if you prefer another company, Carla Car Rental is a good choice to compare vehicles and prices.

The airport itself doesn’t have a shuttle service; however, if you have a crew coming for the game, both Hayward Charter Bus and Minibus Company, and Angel Worldwide Transportation will provide pre-arranged transportation.

Taxi services are plentiful, with the two highest-rated being Delta Taxi Cab (510) 299-8080 and Dave Tavern Taxi Service (510) 330-1924. Uber and Lyft both operate here.

Things To Do Near Hayward Executive Airport

For a peaceful afternoon, close to the airport, the Hayward Japanese Gardens are an ideal spot for quiet walks and photography. It’s the oldest traditional-style Japanese garden in California.

The Oakland Zoo is a major regional zoo with gondola rides, California trail exhibits, and great views of the East Bay.

My choice is the Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park. The towering old-growth trees are amazing, with miles of trails and canyons. Nature lovers will want to spend the entire day here.

On the Oakland waterfront, you will find Jack London Square filled with restaurants, ferries, waterfront paths, and historic monuments.

A standout for families, science lovers, or anyone wanting a unique experience, is the Chabot Space & Science Center.

Last but not least, at my 20-mile radius boundary, is Levi Stadium. I hear they had a big game there on February 8th, and I’m sure there will be more.

Why Fly Here

Hayward Executive Airport offers quick access to some of the East Bay’s most compelling destinations, including Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park, the waterfront energy of Jack London Square, and the region‑spanning exhibits at the Oakland Zoo and Chabot Space & Science Center. You can choose between the tranquil Hayward Japanese Gardens close to the airport or the excitement of Levi Stadium in nearby Santa Clara. With either choice, you still get to enjoy a quiet, efficient airfield and stay close to major Bay Area experiences.
