Things To Do Near Moloka’i Airport/Ho’olehua Airport

I’m not going to state the obvious beach activities, but I will tell you there’s more here than that. Beginning with the Moloka’i Lighthouse, also known as Moloka’i Light, which is the tallest lighthouse on the Islands, giving travelers a striking landmark tied to the island’s maritime history.

Next, theMoloka’i Museum & Cultural Center + R.W. Sugar Mill is the island’s restored 19th-century sugar mill. Complete with a working mule-driven cane crusher and exhibits on the Moloka’i plantation era. This is arguably the single best “story of the island.” Meanwhile, the Kalaupapa Lookout offers sweeping views of the Kalaupapa Peninsula from within Palaʻau State Park, where peaceful shaded trails lead to Phallic Rock and nearby petroglyphs.

Hiking anyone? For a deeper cultural experience, the Halawa Valley Cultural Hike (guided only) is a walk through one of Hawaii’s oldest inhabited valleys, with waterfalls and ancient taro terraces along the way. Additionally, Kumu Farms offers a more modern look at local life through its long-running organic farm, local goods, fresh produce, and occasional tours.

Why Fly Here

Molokaʻi Airport/Ho’olehua Airport (MKK) brings travelers straight to the quiet heart of the island, offering an easy gateway to Kaunakakai, west‑end beaches, and the island’s cultural sites. The airport’s small, relaxed setting makes arrivals simple, and its central location puts you within reach of Molokaʻi’s historic sugar mill, scenic lookouts, and local dining in town.
