Don’t Worry About Big Airports, Fly to Flagstaff, AZ!
Landmarks and the Technical Part
Flagstaff, Arizona (IATA: FLG, ICAO: KFLG, FAA LID: FLG) Flagstaff Pulliam Airport elevation 7014″ is 5 miles south of Flagstaff in Coconino, County, Arizona. This is a public airport with only one asphalt runway, 3/12 which is 8,800′ x 150′. Their beautiful FBO is operated by Wiseman Aviation. They have both AVGas and JetA, nightly tie-downs, a pilot lounge, and general ground maintenance from 7:00a.m.-7:00p.m. M-S and they close at 6:00p.m. on Sundays.
There are quite a few commercial flight into Flagstaff from SkyWest as well as numerous commuter carriers but general aviation keeps this airfield hopping. This is the closest airport to the Grand Canyon. So, as you might guess, the tourism business here grows every year.
Transport
Enterprise Rental Cars as well as numerous shuttles to local hotels are available. There is also a taxi service, Uber, or Lyft available from the airport.

Little America Hotel with it’s 500 acre Ponderosa Pine forest is a local favorite. The Village Camp Flagstaff Outdoor Resort is also a perfect getaway if you want to stay close to nature. You could also choose the Arizona Mountain Inn just a mile from town with 17 cabins tucked into the trees.
The Double Tree by Hilton and the Residence Inn by Marriott downtown are also choices if you’re a points person. On a budget? The Green Tree Inn is likely the best choice around. And, as always, there is Homestay for something a bit more personal and unique.
Local Flagstaff Pubs and Hangouts and Dining!
They say MartAnnes has the best Mexican style breakfast anywhere. There’s also the Over Easy for something a little different or the Tourist Home All Day Cafe for the best breakfast or brunch in town.
For lunch, if you’re in the mood for BBQ try Satchmo’s BBQ. Prefer pizza? Fat Olives is ranked pretty high, also, Pizza at Pizzicletta. For some good old fashioned American try the Lumberyard Brewing Co. or Josephine’s Modern American Bistro, otherwise known as Josephine’s Restaurant.
The Mother Road Brewing Company takes top billing according to several search engines. With Dark Sky Brewing Co. (Pizza at Pizzaicletta) Hops on Birch, and the Historic Brewing Barrel + Bottle House, and Oeno Wine Lounge formerly Vino Loco rounding out the top five. You can checkout Hops On Birch on Facebook.
Things to see and do around Flagstaff.
From the Lava River Caves to helicopter and private tours of the Grand Canyon you won’t lack things to do here. There are small group Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend Tours arranged as day trips, Also, hiking galore around the Grand Canyon itself. The South Rim has a day tour. Warm yourself by the huge fireplace at the lodge in winter. Enjoy the Grand Canyon Skywalk on the West Rim any time of year. Take water! There are a lot of ups and downs here so be sure to dress for the conditions and the terrain.
If you’ve come for skiing, the famous Arizona Snowbowl is just 7 miles NW of Flagstaff in the San Francisco peaks. However, be forewarned, if you’ve rented a vehicle with no chains or 4WD after a snowstorm it’s possible you won’t be allowed up the mountain. You will be directed to the lower parking lot where a shuttle will show up every 20-30 minutes to take you to the resort.
Hitchhiking is also quite common going up the mountain if you happen to be a little adventurous . From downtown Flagstaff you can catch the Mountain Express which is a free shuttle between downtown and the Hart Prairie Lodge (open seasonally) at Arizona Snowbowl.
There are also day trips to the Hoover Dam and a flight to Lake Powell for river rafting. Several of the helicopter tours have a option for an add on Hummer tour. The Monument Valley Tour is every old Western movie you’ve ever seen come to life.
Downtown
Besides just shopping and sight seeing downtown has a haunted history walking tour complete with eccentric guides. They relay all the stories of murder and mystery that shaped the sleepy little railroad town that became the city of Flagstaff.
